Cancellations.
In the unlikely event that a term or remainder of a term is cancelled by the School, the Student will be refunded the full amount for the number of cancelled classes.
Other refunds are not given under any circumstances.
If the Student is unable to attend a lesson, they are to notify Japanese Australia by phone or email as soon as is possible. If the Student intends to have a make-up lesson individually, please see below for options.
Group lessons:
Prior notice given by student:
Catch-up lesson available for $30/hr. Full lesson fee is forfeit by student.
No prior notice and no catch-up lesson required:
Full lesson fee is forfeit by student.
Cancellation of enrolment and/or participation in a group lesson less that one week in advance:
$25 cancellation fee per person.
Cancellation of enrollment and/or participation in a group lesson on the day of the lesson:
Full lesson fee is forfeit by student.
Switching between group classes is not allowed. If you need to change your class time permanently (depending on availabilities), there will be an administration fee of $22.
All of these rules apply to any student enrolled in group lessons. This includes students who are purchasing their lessons as part of any 8 week bundle, casually, or otherwise. Once a group lesson is booked, this is considered to be enrolment in the lesson.
Private lessons:
Prior notice given by student more than one week in advance:
Free rescheduling IF available. Lessons may not be rescheduled to take place outside of the 8 week invoice period that the original lesson was scheduled for. Students purchasing lessons in our off-peak price range (weekdays before 5:30pm) cannot reschedule their lesson to take place during any time that falls during the peak price range (weekdays after 5:30pm and all day Saturday).
Prior notice given by student less than one week in advance:
$22 rescheduling fee*.
No prior notice given by student, same day cancellations, and non-attendance:
Full lesson fee is forfeit by student and no rescheduling is available. A new lesson may be booked at the casual rate.
All of these rules apply to any student enrolled in private lessons. This includes students who are purchasing their lessons as part of any 8 week bundle, casually, or otherwise. Once a lesson is booked, this is considered to be enrolment in the lesson. Rescheduled lessons and catch-up lessons will be treated as private lessons regarding their cancellation and/or non-attendance.
8-week bundle vs. casual
Our 8-week bundle price is only for students who sign up for a set time for 8 consecutive weeks*.
If you sign up for the bundle, your 8 week period will be written on your invoice, (i.e. Week 13 – Week 20.) The 8-week period may not be extended to make up for missed or cancelled classes, regardless of prior notice given by the student. They may not have scheduled breaks or be put on hold, and they cannot be cancelled or split and rolled over into any other period. They are only available for a period of 8 consecutive weeks at a time.
If you know that you will need to miss a few classes, it may be cheaper to pay the casual rate.
If you choose the casual rate the prices are a little higher, but you only pay for the classes that you attend. The fee for each class needs to be paid one(1) week in advance. However even for casual classes, a cancellation within 1 week is still considered a missed class and a catch-up lesson may be taken or the lesson fee is forfeit.
You can change from the 8-week package to the casual rate retrospectively. In other words, if you started with the package price but you can’t attend the classes anymore you can still change to the casual rate. The classes that you have taken (or missed with less than 1 weeks notice) will be charged at the casual rate, and the remaining money will be credited to your account for future lessons. Refunds are not given.
*This is also available for intensive private classes as long as they are finished within the 8 week period.
